The NHS Scotland workforce Official Statistics publication released on 3 March 2026 (based on the 31 December 2025 census) is the first publication to use data taken directly from eESS. During the changeover, the data and new processes went through several stages of testing. The figures reported from SWISS are comparable with eESS, and the overall difference (total WTE and headcount) between the two systems is very small. However, some variables contain higher levels of missing data. In particular, NHS Lothian shows higher levels of missing specialty data, most notably in paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology.
