Transfer of statistics

NHS Education for Scotland to Public Services Delivery Scotland

From 1 April 2026, NHS Education for Scotland and NHS National Services for Scotland are coming together to form Public Services Delivery Scotland. Whilst this new body was being created it had a working title of NHS Delivery.

This new organisation is being created under the Common Services Agency which is already a producer of Official Statistics, so there will be no change to the designation of Official Statistics.

We will continue to publish our statistics on the NHS workforce and Primary care in Scotland on this website.

ISD (NSS) to NHS Education for Scotland

From 1 October 2019, responsibility for some national workforce data, statistical & intelligence function transferred from ISD to NHS Education for Scotland (NES).

A joint letter by the Chief Executives of NSS and NES, dated 23 August 2019, details the rationale for the changes and arrangements for the transfer of these functions.

During the transition period, NES voluntarily applied the UK Statistics Authority's Code of Practice for Statistics to ensure full continuity in producing the NHS Workforce statistics according to the three pillars of the code of practice: Trustworthiness, Quality and Value.

Publications released prior to 3 December 2019 can be accessed via the Public Health Scotland (previously ISD Scotland) Workforce publication page.
