Assessment against the Code of Practice

August 2022

Our statistics have recently undergone an assessment by the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR). The assessment was related to a potential designation of the statistics as National Statistics. In light of NES’ plans to further develop our data and publications the OSR have decided to pause the assessment process. You can read their letter outlining their findings here. If you would like any further information about this outcome you can contact us at DataGroup@nes.scot.nhs.uk, or contact the OSR at regulation@statistics.gov.uk.

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all data suppliers and users who provided feedback to the OSR in support of the assessment process.

Official workforce statistics

The NHS is Scotland's biggest employer and its workforce has a significant role to play in the delivery of quality services that meet the needs of patients, their families and the general public in a modern health service.

NHS Education for Scotland produce three Official Statistics publications since December 2019:

  • NHSScotland Workforce for NHSScotland,
  • Psychology Services Workforce in NHSScotland, and
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Workforce in NHSScotland

About our data and reports has information on the data and sources, methodologies, publication timetable, and how we apply the Code of Practice for Statistics maintained by the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA).

Workforce publications prior to 3 December 2019 can be accessed via the Public Health Scotland (previously ISD Scotland) Workforce publication page.
